Dr. Wendell A. Goins

Wendell A Goins, MD, FACS, RVT

Dr. Goins obtained his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., where he also received his surgical training.  He completed a Trauma - Critical Care Fellowship at University of Maryland's Shock-Trauma Center in Baltimore.  He served as Chief of Trauma-Surgical Critical Care and Chief of the Howard University Surgical Service at the District of Columbia General Hospital in Washington, D.C.  He was also an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Howard University and authored or co-authored medical articles, chapters in medical books, and made presentations at national medical meetings.  He has been in private practice in the Carolinas since 1996 when he founded Mid-Carolina Surgery Specialists with two locations in Lancaster, SC and at Blakeney in Charlotte, NC.  The Consumers Research Council, an independent Washington, DC organization selected Dr. Goins as one of America’s Top Surgeons for 2008 and 2009.  Their criteria for his selection included experience, training, education, professional associations, and board certifications.  He currently serves as Chief of Surgery at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, SC. 

 

Dr. Goins is double Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care/Trauma, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is Board Certified by the American Board of Phlebology.  He is an Associate of the American College of Cosmetic Surgery and the International Society Cosmetologynecology and additionally, an ARDMS Registered Vascular Technician.

Physician Assistant

Lesslie Marquez-Durst, PA-C

Lesslie is a certified Physician Assistant (PA) specializing in Laser and General Surgery at Mid-Carolina Surgery, Vein, and Aesthetics.  She received her Bachelors Degree from Davidson College with undergraduate studies at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, England.  She received her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC.

She has practiced as a Physician Assistant in a clinical setting seeing patients independently as well as First Assistant Surgeon in the hospital setting.  She assists Dr. Goins in Laser Vein Surgery, Laser Lipolysis, and consulting and treating our general surgery patients in both the Lancaster and Blakeney offices.  She has completed training and certifications in aesthetic medicine to perform skin consultations and laser skin procedures, as well as our injectables: Botox, Radiesse, and Juvederm.  Through her multi-disciplinary education and training, she is able to evaluate and treat patients in all areas that we specialize in at Mid-Carolina Surgery.




Vascular Lab Director

Timothy Jonassen, RVT

Tim is a graduate of Temple University and licensed as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medicine Sonographers (ARDMS).

Tim has been the vascular lab technical director at Mid-Carolina Surgery, Vein and Aesthetics since 2005.  Since that time, he has assisted Dr. Goins in over 900 endovenous and endoluminal radiofrequency surgeries.  He and Dr. Goins have also co-authored three vascular abstracts, all of which were selected for presentation at the American College of Phlebology’s 2007 Annual Congress in Tucson, Arizona.  One of these abstracts, titled “Interim Report of the First 208 Cases of Endovenous Ablation for Saphenous Venous Incompetence using the Radiofrequency and 1320 nm Laser” was chosen for publication in a 2008 issue of the globally distributed Phlebology Journal.

 

Tim came to our practice with over 9 years of experience in general and vascular ultrasound, including 4 years as a general and vascular ultrasound instructor in Tampa, FL.  As a vascular lab director in Florida, he assisted in over 1,500 surgeries and directed two of the lab’s vascular accreditation processes by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).  This lab was one of a few that was nationally recognized and selected by VNUS® Technologies to conduct follow-up research on the VNUS® Closure Procedure.  During this time he also contributed to two vascular abstracts, one of which was presented at the American College of Phlebology’s 2004 Annual Congress.  He is a member of the national Society for Vascular Ultrasound and American College of Phlebology.
